RAZ有嚴密的分級體系：根據全文詞匯數、高頻詞詞匯數與比例、低頻詞詞匯數與比例、句子長度、句子復雜度、句式、插圖信息量、思想深度、主題等多個角度，將整個閱讀體系分為aa，A-Z共27個級別。

RAZ旨在幫助孩子找到適合孩子水平的級別，通過在同一級別下的大量閱讀逐步提高孩子的閱讀能力。

RAZ按難度分為27個級別，AA—C這4個級別對應幼兒園階段; D—J這7個級別對應美國小學一年級;K—P這6個級別對應美國小學二年級;Q—T這4個級別對應美國小學三年級;U—W這3個級別對應美國小學四年級;X—Z對應美國小學五六年級(相當于國內高中畢業)。

Q級已經達到初中畢業的水平，詞匯量超過600個，語法上涉及國內初中重要的所有語法(各種時態，靈活的副詞和形容詞，形象的動詞詞組，定語從句，賓語從句，狀語從句等)。
