Long ago, there was a boy named David.

很久很久以前，有個(gè)男孩名叫大衛(wèi)。

David looked after his father’s sheep.

大衛(wèi)照顧著父親的羊群，

And God looked after David.

而上帝則照顧著他。

Once a lion came to steal a sheep.

有一次，一只獅子出來(lái)偷羊。

Was David afraid? No!

大衛(wèi)害怕它嗎?不!

He killed the lion all by himself!

他一個(gè)人殺死了獅子!

Soon war came to David’s land.

不久后，大衛(wèi)的所在的地方發(fā)生了戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)。

David’s brothers went off to fight.

大衛(wèi)的哥哥們上前線打仗去了。

But David was too youny.

但是大衛(wèi)太年輕了，

He had to stay at home.

他只能留在家里。

One day, David’s father said,

有一天，大衛(wèi)的父親對(duì)他說(shuō)，

“You must take some food to your brothers.”

“你得拿上這些食物去給哥哥們。”

So David did.

大衛(wèi)按照父親的話出發(fā)了。

He walked all the way to the top of a hill.

他走呀走，一路從山腳走到山頂。

David saw his brothers.

大衛(wèi)看見了他的哥哥們。

He saw the king.

他看見了國(guó)王，

He saw lots of other men, too.

也看見了很多戰(zhàn)士。

But no one saw David.

但是沒有人注意到大衛(wèi)。

Everyone was looking at the other army.

每個(gè)人都在看對(duì)面敵人的軍隊(duì)。

When would the battle begin?

戰(zhàn)斗什么時(shí)候開始呢?

Then—across the valley came a giant.

在山谷那邊，站立著一個(gè)巨人。

The giant was big and strong and mean.

巨人又高又壯，還很卑鄙。
