作者是一個非常懂孩子的童書作者。聽到小男孩Micky有驚無險的冒險故事，往往會特別喜歡。Micky在詭異的廚房城市里，遇到了一群像被催眠了一樣的廚師，自己陷入了麻煩，但是他靠自己的想象力取得了勝利。這個情節很像孩子們常常會經歷的心理活動，孩子有時會陷入假想出的恐懼中，能帶他們走出恐懼的往往也是想象力，孩子們也會很有代入感。

繪本內容

Did you ever hear of Mickey

你曾經聽說過米奇嗎?

how he heard a racket in the night

他是怎么在晚上聽到了喧鬧聲

and shouted: QUIET DOWN THERE!

并且喊道：那里安靜點!

and fell through the dark, out of his clothes

他穿過黑暗，從衣服里飄出來，

past the moon & his mama & papa sleeping tight

經過沉睡的月亮和他的爸爸媽媽

into the light of the night kitchen?

進入晚上廚房的光亮中?

Where the bakers who bake till the dawn

so we can have cake in the morn

mixed Mickey in batter,

那里的面包師們烘焙到天明，

這樣我們就可以在早晨吃到這個

把米奇也混在黃油里的蛋糕了，

Chanting：

面包師們開始唱到：

Milk in the batter!

牛奶混合黃油!

Stir it! scrape it! Make it! Bake it!

攪拌它!刮刮它!揉揉它!烘烘它!

And they put that butter up to

bake a delicious Mickey-cake.

然后他們把黃油放上去，

烘焙出了一個可口的米奇蛋糕。

But right in the middle of the steaming

And the making

And the smelling

And the baking

Mickey poked through and said:

但是就在蒸呀、做呀、聞味呀、烘烤呀的時候，

米奇鉆出來說：

I’m not the milk and the milk’s not me!

我不是牛奶，牛奶也不是我!

I’m Mickey!

我是米奇!

So he skipped from the oven &into bread

dough all ready to rise in the night kitchen.

所以米奇跳到烤爐上方，

跳進午夜廚房發酵好的生面團里。

He kneaded and punched it and pounded and pulled

他揉呀，打呀，拍呀，拉呀

till it locked okay.

直到面團都定型了，成了飛機的模樣。

Then Mickey in dough was just on his way

然后米奇開著“飛機”上路了。

When the bakers ran up with a measuring cup, howling

當面包師拿著量杯跑來，喊道：

Milk! Milk! Milk for the morning cake!

牛奶!牛奶!清晨做蛋糕要用的牛奶啊!

What’s all the fuss?

有什么大驚小怪的?

I’m Mickey pilot!

我可是飛行員米奇!

I get milk the Mickey way!

我會用自己的方式得到牛奶的!

And he grabbed the cup as he flew up

就在他飛起來時撈走了那只量杯

and up, and up

向上飛呀，向上飛~

and over, the top of the Milk way in the night kitchen.

最后，到了午夜廚房的牛奶杯上方。

Mickey the milkman dived down to the bottom

米奇，這個“取牛奶”的人跳進了牛奶瓶的底部

singing

唱道

I’m in the milk and the milk’s in me.

我在牛奶里，牛奶在我身體里

God bless milk and God bless me!

上帝保佑牛奶，上帝保佑我!

Then he swam to the top

然后他游到頂端

pouring milk from his cup into batter below-

用他的量杯把牛奶倒進面包師端著的黃油里

so the bakers they mixed it and beat it and baked it.

面包師們混合它，拍打它，烘烤它。

Milk in the batter!

牛奶倒進面糊!

We bake cake!

我們烘焙蛋糕!

And nothing’s the matter!

一切都會好的!

Now Mickey in the night kitchen cried

現在米奇在午夜廚房里喊道：

COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO!

喔喔喔!

and slid down the side

然后從側面滑下來

straight into bed

直接掉到了床上，

cakefree and dried.

身上沒面包了，也干了。

And that's way, thanks to Mickey

We have cake every morning.
